My Blog Name

My boyfriend has always been confused by the title of my blog... when he talks about it, he usually calls it "La Petite zhazhoouuroouu" or something, stringing together vaguely French sounding syllables.  At BBC, I was asked several times about what the title meant or how I chose it, so I've decided to explain it.  I realize that I probably should have chosen a blog title that a) is in English and b) relates to books somehow, but I really do love my blog title.

La Petite Fille Rousse means "the little redheaded girl," or at least, I hope it does haha.  Since I look much younger than I am, whenever acquaintances refer to me, I usually get called "the little redheaded girl," which is kind of cute albeit also annoying.  I took French in middle school, high school, and college, and in all 50 essays that I wrote about myself, inevitably the same phrases would make it in, "Je suis une jeune fille rousse.  J'aime manger et danser.  Je voudrais voyager au Paris." When trying to come up with a title for my blog, it felt like all of the good ones were taken, (hello, Chick Loves Lit), so I chose something a little different.

How did you choose your blog name?  How do you feel about it now?

Book Blogger Convention!

Tomorrow I leave for NYC to attend the Book Blogger Convention 2011.  I'm so excited to meet other bloggers and learn about how to make my blog better.  I had a slow start this year due to some personal problems, but I'm so glad I'm actually able to put focus into my blog again, and by this time next year, I hope to have a far better blog with richer, more frequent posts and a wider reach.

I've started getting emails from authors, asking me to review their books, which is very exciting!  If you are an author, send me a message- chances are I'd love to read and review your book for this blog.

If you see me at BBC, definitely say hello- I'm expecting it to be challenging at first to connect faces to blogs, but I can't wait!

Book Blogger Hop (11) and Follow Friday (1!!)

This weeks question:  "Which book blogger would you most like to meet in real life?"

Although I'm really excited about meeting lots of bloggers at BBC, I would have to say that I would love to meet Danya from A Tapestry of Words.  She and I seem to have really similar tastes in books, and she is always so nice with her comments!

Isn't it great when you make a new bookish friend and you can talk for hours about the pros and cons of different characters, and whether this series is better than that series, and oh, you HAVE to read this author, you'll love her!?

What character in a book would you most like to be, what character in a book would you most like to date??

The dating question is easy- Jace.  Although I actually would not like to date him so much as spend the rest of my life staring into his eyes.  It's a good thing he's ...fictional, or my BFF would probably kill me. As she threatened to do when I converted from an Edward devotee to a Jace devotee.  "Sorry, hun, he was mine first."

The more complicated and more interesting question is which character would you most like to be... Would I like to be someone who is like me personality-wise but in a much more interesting situation, or would I like to be someone who is nothing like me?  I think I'd like to be Alanna (Tamora Pierce).  I'm a lot like her- red headed, tempestuous, and passionate, but I will probably never have the chance to practice magic or be an excellent swordswoman.

Book Blogger Convention!

I am so excited to have just registered for the 2011 Book Blogger Convention in NYC!  PS I also just booked my own hotel- for someone as travel and adventure challenged as I am, this is a very big deal.  Leave a comment if you are going as well- I skimmed the attendees list and I saw a lot of my favorite blogs, so I can't wait to meet you all!

Early bird registration ends soon- like TOMORROW- so register now if you would like to attend!

Review- Unclutter Your Life in One Week by Erin Rooney Doland

So I have been following the blog Unclutterer for about six months now, and last month in a fit of desperation, I bought Erin's book.  This book mainly goes from a Monday to Friday, with a morning home task, an at work task, and an evening home task.  It also includes handy home management lists for Fall and Spring Cleaning.  This book is motivational, but really focuses on Getting Things Done and How to Do Them.

Positives:  I feel much more organized now than before I read this book.  I actually completely reorganized my clothing and wardrobe system, took two bags of clothes to the thrift store, and visited the drycleaner- ON THE FIRST DAY!  I am going to hang on to this book and probably re-read it every six months or so.  I am currently badgering my mother to read this book, which brings me to the negatives:

Negatives:  Since I live with my parents and two younger sisters (going to grad school in the DC area is EXPENSIVE), I only really have authority over my things and my main responsibility, which is the laundry.  I also do not have an office, so most of the office advice doesn't apply to me.  This is not the book's fault, but I am not really the target audience.  However, as I mentioned above, this book is so wonderful that I am going to hang on to it and use it in my home, when I hopefully move out next summer!

So... 4 stars.  If you need help organizing, try this book.  DEFINITELY CHECK OUT THE BLOG!  It's excellent. I  have gotten so many good suggestions and a lot of entertainment from reading Unclutterer.com.
