Thoughts on Catching Fire- *spoilers* (none for Mockingjay, though!)

Sorry for the super sketch last post (which I am currently editing!)  This was the first week with students at the high school where I teach, so I've been a little bit crazy.

I finished reading Catching Fire- and it was amazing.  This book just grabbed ahold of me and caused me to feel so many emotions- I audibly gasped, cried in public, and generally was consumed by this book.

Here are the *SPOILERS* so watch out.  I'll change the font color for the big one-

Peeta's missing!  As I neared the end of the book I was feeling okay about having to wait a few days for my copy of Mockingjay, but then at the very end THIS HAPPENED.  He really became my second fav character (to Katniss) through this book, and I love him.  If Katniss doesn't want him, I do  :D  !

I absolutely LOVED how Katniss still retained her imperfection throughout this book, and I think that's part of what sets it apart from other adventure type YA fiction.  Unfortunately I forgot to copy the quote before I returned the book to the library, but about 3/4 of the way through, there is a moment where Katniss considers saving herself and running.  She still has fears and struggles with, not selfishness, but more self-preservation.  Maybe it is selfishness?  Anyways, so many times we see these heroes like Harry Potter and Peeta who never consider running and just saving themselves.  I know that I'm not selfless, and I'd be tempted to abandon people in these life or death situations.  If you think you might know the quote that I'm talking about, please post it in the comments.

So not a real review, because so many other people have done so, but I give it 5 stars.

  1. That book is amazing. My heart broke when that old man was shot whistling Rue's song. Ugh! So beautiful.
